MODERN PENTATHLON

In a nutshell

Modern Pentathlon is governs by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne also known as the UIPM. UIPM is a flagship of sport and offers the ultimate test of an athlete’s fitness, courage and skill. It combines with 5 traditional discipline to become that competes in one day. It had been in the olympic schedule since 1912.


To further promote the sport, UIPM board, came out with different combination of discipline to work towards the complete athlete that does all 5 discipline. 


It starts with the laser run, modern biathle, modern triathle, modern tetrathlon and finally modern pentathlon.


With this progression, it create a wonderful pathway that leads to the ultimate athlete. 

Quick Facts on Modern Pentathlon

FENCING

Weapon: Epee

Time Limit: 1 min per bout

Opponent: All Pentathlete

Bonus: Fencing Bonus Round (Sort by ranking, the last opponent will fence to the top to gain bonus points)

SWIMMING

Swimming Pool Layout: 25m/50m Pool

Distance: 200m

Stroke: Freestyle

RIDING

Discipline: Show Jumping

Area: 350m-400m

Obstacle: 12 of them and attempt to clear all with at least 1 double and 1 triple 

RUN AND SHOOT

A combined event of running and shoot and the first person run past the line is the winner. Handicap time will be given according to rank after the first 4 discipline. 


Running Distance: 800m

Shooting Distance: 10m

Shooting Target: 5 times or 50 sec which ever comes first
